The reconstruction of the 500 kV Chelyabinsk substation has begun. Three modern gas-insulated circuit breakers with a voltage of 500 kV will be installed at the power plant. As a result of the reconstruction, the reliability of electricity transit between Russia and the Republic of Kazakhstan will increase.
Equipment is installed to replace obsolete air counterparts. The new SF6 circuit breakers were manufactured by Elmash LLC (UETM), Russia's largest Ural producer of power electrical equipment. This equipment is more compact and reliable, has a long overhaul period and a service life of at least 40 years. Replacing the circuit breakers will make it possible to decommission the air handling unit and reduce the cost of operating the equipment. The reconstruction is planned to be completed by the beginning of the winter peak season.
The Chelyabinsk 500 kV substation connects the energy systems of the Urals and central Russia, provides interstate transit between Russia and the Republic of Kazakhstan, and also provides power to the city of Chebarkul, the Chebarkul district of the Chelyabinsk region with a population of 70 thousand people and the South Ural Railway.
